Required Hours
15 practice-focused contact hours per renewal period (the most common of three continuing-competency options)
Renewal Cycle
Biennial (every 2 years), tied to your birth month
Tracking / Reporting
Self-attested at renewal (you affirm completion in the prior 24 months). You no longer upload certificates — but keep them for audit.
Renewal Deadline
License expires the last day of your birth month in your assigned odd- or even-numbered year. Renew through the Arkansas Nurse Portal.
Required & specialty topics
- Complete ONE of: 15 practice-focused contact hours from an ASBN-recognized national/state approval body; OR national certification/recertification; OR at least one college credit hour in nursing (grade C or better) during the licensure period.
- APRNs with prescriptive authority: an additional 5 contact hours of pharmacotherapeutics, 2 of which cover professional boundaries and Arkansas prescribing rules/laws.
New & first-time renewals
- If your first renewal cycle is less than 24 months, there is NO CE requirement for that first renewal (whether licensed by exam or endorsement).
Good to know
- No mandatory CE topics for RNs.
- Reinstatement / late renewal of less than five years requires 20 contact hours.
- Arkansas is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
