Renewal Deadline
All RN/LPN licenses expire September 30 of an odd- or even-numbered year (depending on issue date). Renew through the DORA online portal; renewal opens about 4–6 weeks before expiration. No grace period.
Required & specialty topics
- There is currently NO mandatory CE-hour total to renew an RN/LPN license.
- If you have not practiced on an active license in the previous two years, you must demonstrate continued competency (for example, a Board-approved refresher / reentry program).
- APRNs with prescriptive authority (RXN): at least 5 contact hours of pharmacology CE per renewal cycle, in addition to maintaining national certification.

- Colorado is a full Nurse Licensure Compact state.
- The Board is statutorily authorized to require up to 20 CE hours, but does not impose CE hours for RNs at this time — verify current rules before relying on this.
