Connecticut Nursing CE Requirements
Everything Connecticut RNs need for license renewal — required contact hours,
renewal cycle, mandatory topics, and the best continuing-education providers, in one place.
Required Hours
2 contact hours every 6 years (a one-topic requirement — there is no general annual CE-hour total for RNs)
Renewal Cycle
License renews ANNUALLY (every year)
Tracking / Reporting
Self-attested at online renewal; keep certificates for audit.
Renewal Deadline
RN/LPN licenses renew every year (tied to your birth month) through the CT DPH online portal. The 2-hour topic requirement recurs once every 6 years.
Required & specialty topics
- Every 6 years, actively practicing RNs/LPNs complete 2 contact hours on: (1) screening for PTSD, suicide risk, depression, and grief; and (2) suicide prevention training.
- No other general CE hours are required for RN/LPN renewal.
Good to know
- One contact hour = at least 50 minutes of instruction.
- APRNs must complete 50 contact hours every 2 years (including 5 hours of pharmacotherapeutics and specific 1-hour topics).
- Connecticut is NOT a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
