Delaware Nursing CE Requirements
Everything Delaware RNs need for license renewal — required contact hours,
renewal cycle, mandatory topics, and the best continuing-education providers, in one place.
Required Hours
30 contact hours per renewal period (RN/APRN; LPNs need 24)
Renewal Cycle
Biennial (every 2 years)
Tracking / Reporting
Self-attested in DELPROS; a percentage of licensees are randomly audited. At renewal you also attest to having practiced at least 1,000 hours in the past 5 years (or 400 hours in the past 2 years).
Renewal Deadline
RN/APRN licenses expire February 28, May 31, or September 30 of ODD-numbered years (the month depends on when your license was first issued; all newly issued RN licenses expire September 30 of odd years). Renew in DELPROS before expiration.
Required & specialty topics
- Substance Abuse: 3 of the 30 hours must be in substance abuse (e.g., drug diversion and best-practice prescribing).
- Mandatory reporting: 1 hour on recognizing and responding to suspected abuse, exploitation, trafficking, or domestic violence of vulnerable persons, and the related reporting obligations.
- APRNs: maintain national certification; prescribers complete 2 hours in controlled-substance prescribing/chronic pain (satisfied via the 3-hour substance-abuse requirement).
