Required Hours
30 contact hours per renewal period (the most common of five continuing-competency options)
Renewal Cycle
Biennial (every 2 years)
Tracking / Reporting
CE Broker (official). The Board does NOT approve individual providers — use a Board-recognized provider and report to CE Broker.
Renewal Deadline
Biennial renewal through the GOALS portal. RN/APRN licenses renew by January 31 of even-numbered years.
Required & specialty topics
- You satisfy continuing competency by ONE of: 30 contact hours of CE; OR maintaining national certification; OR completing an accredited academic program in nursing or a related field; OR 500 hours of practice plus employer competency verification; OR a Board-approved reentry/refresher program.
- APRNs authorized to prescribe hydrocodone/oxycodone: 1 additional CE hour every 2 years on appropriate opioid prescribing (effective July 1, 2024).

- One contact hour = 50 minutes of instruction.
- Georgia is an enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) state — renew here only if Georgia is your primary state of residence.
