30 contact hours per renewal period (the most common of several continuing-competency learning options)

Renewal Deadline
Licenses expire June 30 of ODD-numbered years. Renew online through the MyPVL system.
Required & specialty topics
- Satisfy continuing competency by ONE learning option per biennium (you cannot combine options): 30 contact hours of CE; OR national certification/recertification in your practice role; OR 120 hours of preceptorship; OR a Board-recognized refresher course; OR a nursing research / evidence-based practice project; OR developing and presenting a first-time nursing education presentation of at least 5 contact hours; OR a Board-recognized nurse residency program.
- APRNs with prescriptive authority: 30 contact hours in the specialty, 8 of which must be advanced pharmacology/pharmacotherapeutics; APRNs also maintain national certification.

- Hawaii is NOT currently a Nurse Licensure Compact state (legislation introduced, not enacted).
