New Mexico Nursing CE Requirements

30 contact hours per renewal period (the most common of three continuing-competency options)

Licenses renew every 2 years (check your Nurse Portal for your date). Renew online.
Required & specialty topics
- Satisfy continuing competency by ONE of (16.12.2 NMAC): 30 contact hours of CE; OR obtaining/renewing a nursing specialty certificate during the period; OR continuing formal nursing education through a Board-approved or nationally accredited program.
- National certification/recertification within the renewal period is accepted in lieu of the 30 hours.
- APRNs with DEA registration who prescribe opioids: 5 hours in non-cancer pain management (per 16.12.9 NMAC).

- APRNs (CNP/CNS/CRNA) complete 50 contact hours per period.
