Required Hours
Currently no general CE-hour total — only the two mandatory topics below (a 20-hour CE requirement begins Jan 1, 2028)
Renewal Cycle
Biennial (every 2 years), tied to your birthday
Tracking / Reporting
Self-attested; keep documentation for audit.
Renewal Deadline
Licenses renew on your birthday every 2 years (even-year birthdays in even years, odd in odd). Renew through the Oregon Nurse Portal; no grace period.
Required & specialty topics
- Pain Management: 1 hour every renewal — must be the Oregon Pain Management Commission (OPMC) module.
- Cultural Competency: 2 hours every renewal (within the past 48 months).
- NOTE: As of January 1, 2026 the OSBN ELIMINATED the practice-hours requirement. As of January 1, 2028, a new CE-hour requirement takes effect (20 hours for RN/LPN; 75 hours or national certification for APRN).
New & first-time renewals
- At initial licensure there is a one-time 7-hour pain management requirement (which includes the 1-hour OPMC module).
Good to know
- Oregon has enacted Nurse Licensure Compact legislation; implementation is pending.
