531 practice hours over 3 years PLUS continuing education (see the breakdown below)
Renewal Cycle
Annual renewal on your birthday; practice hours measured over 3 years
Tracking / Reporting
Self-attested; CE need not come from an approved course list as long as it meets the topic rules. Keep documentation ~2 years.
Renewal Deadline
RN licenses renew on your birthday. Renew online through the WABON portal.
Required & specialty topics
- Practice hours: 531 hours of active practice within the prior 3 years.
- Continuing education: 8 CE hours in the 12 months before renewal.
- Health Equity: at least 2 of those 8 hours must be health-equity CE EVERY renewal (first compliance at your 2026 renewal, or 2nd renewal for new licensees). Must include implicit-bias content.
- Suicide training: a one-time 6-hour training in suicide assessment, treatment, and management (RNs and LPNs; CRNAs are exempt).
New & first-time renewals
- New licensees have until their 2nd renewal date to complete the health-equity CE.
Good to know
- Washington joined the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) in 2023.
- Nurses who provide telemedicine must also complete telehealth training.
