Tracking / Reporting
CE Broker (official) — hours are verified electronically at renewal. The Board will not accept courses under 1.0 contact hour.
Renewal Deadline
Per HB 4110 (2024), RN renewal moved to June 30: licenses renewed in 2024 expire June 30, 2026; the next period runs July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2028 and repeats every even year. Renew online.
Required & specialty topics
- No mandatory topic for the general 12 hours — choose content relevant to your practice.
- Drug diversion / safe prescribing: a one-time 3-hour training (drug-diversion, best-practice controlled-substance prescribing, and opioid-antagonist administration) within 1 year of initial licensure IF you prescribe, administer, or dispense controlled substances.
- NOTE: The former veterans' mental-health CE is NO LONGER required (per WV Code 30-1-7a / HB 3317).
New & first-time renewals
- Newly licensed RNs are exempt from CE for their first renewal.

- West Virginia is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
- APRNs: 24 hours (12 pharmacotherapeutics + 12 clinical management).
